Extra information
There are two main airports (red): Charleroi, and Zaventem. Charleroi is where most of the flights are redirected to, especially lower cost ones, whereas Zaventem has a smaller traffic and distribution of them.
From Charleroi, one can take a flibco bus (there’s one every hour, and the ticket is usually ~20 euros; pink on the map), which will take ~1h, and will stop at Brussels midi train station. From there one can take an IC train to Leuven central (such as the IC 3604 Genk; green on the map), which will take ~30 min. An important note is that midi is not the safest area during the nighttime, so please exercise caution (stay inside the station if possible).
If landing in Zaventem, the train will take ~15 min (green on the map), and is also an IC one. Zaventem is especially well connected to Leuven and is the recommended airport.
If taking the train, it will either typically arrive at midi, or gare du Nord, which then have connections to Leuven central (there’s also a bus from gare du Nord, the R90).
For accommodation, recommend booking something near Oude Markt, or De Bruul Park, as these are quite accessible, quiet, and well located.
